Expecting soon! Heartiest congratulations lovely! And while you are juggling between  what to eat when pregnant and food to avoid, I am sure that you are also concerned about what you are going to wear for the next 9 months!

Shopping is definitely on your mind and every now and then you see yourself surfing the internet, probably building your pregnancy shopping checklist.

Okay, I get that! I’ve been there, done that!

And though not an expert yet, I think I am still knowledgeable enough to share my experience about maternity wear with every mom-to-be. I am here to discuss Maternity fashion and want to share a few tips that would help you in this beautiful journey that you are about to experience.

When pregnant… getting dressed up and looking good is no easy task, to say the least. Your body keeps on changing and so does that cute bump! And since the change is so often it is impossible to get new sizes every other month. Which leaves us with a choice to pick clothes smartly and pieces that we can use it throughout the pregnancy without digging deep in one’s pocket!

1. Don’t go crazy and build a new wardrobe all at once for the sake of Maternity fashion.

Ladies, I want to share my personal experience here. It was my first pregnancy in 2017 and I kind of went crazy buying the new stuff all at once!

Now the problem is that after the first 3 months the size of bump changes and therefore I was left with very little items in my new wardrobe. And then I was shopping again.

My advice is to not buy maternity wear all at once. Buy as and when required. Also please do remember that you won’t be wearing this huge size (dresses for example) after delivery. At least that should be your goal! I mean who wants to be extra pounds for years!

After delivery, you might use these clothing items for a few months but then women eventually lose weight and come back to their normal weight so there is nothing to worry.

2. Invest in a pair of jeans/pants/leggings with super flexible elastic band

Yes, this is one tip that I gave all my friends who were expecting. Buy in basic colours like black/white/ grey which would be easier to pair with other pieces.

Now don’t shy away from flaunting your curves ????

3. Add colours & patterns to your maternity wear, cheers to Maternity fashion

I see a lot of women trying to hide their bump and I never understand the reason behind it! It is your best time of life; you are celebrating it so why not to flaunt it as well! Add colours to your wardrobe if you are too much into basic styling like me.

I know I just said in the above paragraph that invest in basic colours when it comes to pants or leggings but my dear friend that rule is only for the bottoms and you can add all the colours and patterns through your maternity tunics, dresses and tops. Don’t shy away from sporting patterns like florals and stripes.

You should try and look your best through each trimester. Enjoy the phases!

4. Maternity fashion includes comfortable shoes for happy feet!

It is very crucial to choose a comfortable pair of shoes during pregnancy. I love my converse pair of shoes so much and wore them literally every day! So, what about other shoes? you should not wear them at all? No such is not the case. If you feel like wearing heels with an awesome dress for a candlelight dinner with your husband…go for it.

However, in day to day life opt for shoes and slippers with no heels or very fewer heels. The reason behind opting for a pair of flat shoes is because you will experience swollen feet during pregnancy. Some women experience swollen feet right after 3rth month and it continues till the time of delivery.

Of course, each woman experiences the swollen feet in different phases but it happens so accept the inevitable!

Therefore, why not to keep your feet pampered and happy by giving them a relaxed flat ground to rest onto????. Breathable sneakers and flip flops that are also lightweight are the best bet!

5. Invest in accessories like chunky cardigans and scarves.

You won’t even believe if I tell you that I bought 4 chunky cardigans/outwear and I still wear them though I have lost all of my pregnancy weight!

Yes, investing in my outerwear is the best decision that I took. Such outwear kept me warm when it was a bit chilly and became my personal style statement. In addition to this, I still wear these cardigans as loose-fitting long cardigans never go out of style!

Also, I add a scarf in almost every outfit and to my bags too! Don’t believe me? Watch my Instagram video below and see how I do it:

I think shopping smart for maternity wear is the best advice that I can offer. Believe me, for the first 3 months you won’t even need any new maternity wear so take a chill pill! Do not rush into buying clothes.

Most importantly take good care of yourself and pay a visit to your doctor regularly. Eat healthily and sleep well. Read books and listen to your favourite songs. Take evening walks with your man and talk to your mom and mom in law like you talk to your best friends. Believe me, they are the most experienced women around and you will need their help!

I wish you a safe delivery and a very healthy and happy baby!!!!

Loads of hugs and big kisses!!!!

Here’s looking back your friendly mom turned blogger…Shivi
