As the title suggests here is “What’s In My Hospital Bag: Checklist For Mom To Be”!

You are reading this article so I am guessing you are about to reach your due date soon! So good luck for that honey! Let me start by letting you know that I had 2 bags one for myself and the other for my baby. In this article I am covering all those items that I packed for myself.  I hope you find the article helpful.

  • Keep your medical record file and your identification card like pan card, driver licence etc. for insurance purposes.
  • Affordable, clean gowns or Pyjama set: You need two and I swear you wont like wearing hospital gowns for too long. Women bleed after delivery so wearing hospital gown is necessary. I wore hospital gowns the first day after my delivery and then started wearing my own.

I took gowns as those were more comfortable. If you have a loose pyjama set you can take that too. Remember if you get C-Section you won’t like to put anything across your waist so gowns are preferably convenient option.

  • Slippers: I cannot walk bare foot so a pair of slippers came in handy. Buy good quality ones that have good grip. You will be weak after delivery and the last thing you need in your life is a slip in bathroom or in your room…sorry just saying!
  • Phone & phone charger: Yes, I used my phone immediately after I was in my senses. Happily attending everyone’s call.
  • Towels and toiletries like your toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, hair band/hair clips, moisturiser, body lotion, hair oil (optional) face wash, body wash/soap, shampoo, conditioner, blowdryer, lip balm etc. 2 face towels and 1 body towel are enough.
  • Postpartum Bandage also known as Recovery Shapewear: ladies this will be your saviour and a must have after both normal and c section delivery. In today’s time doctors advise to start walking the very second day of your delivery and in such scenarios this belt will help you and your back.

It is also advisable to keep wearing the belt as much as possible as it holds your belly. In addition to this it will also help shape your tummy.

  • Maternity bras & disposable nursing pads: I took four bras since clothes cannot be washed at the hospital and there was no laundry service there. The fourth day I was back at home. Nursing pads you can take and it will be used if you are milking nicely.
  • Sanitary pads: Can’t thank myself enough to take these to the hospital. You do get packs at the hospital but why not take a pack of pads when you have it at home.
  • Underwear: obviously you will be using a pad because you will surely bleed and therefore comfortable underwear is a must. Take 5 panties.
  • Socks: it is important to keep yourself warm even if you are delivering in summers. Comfortable hosiery helps a lot. This is important to support your legs and will keep them in shape. The swelling takes time to go and therefore a pair of good tights/hosiery can help you a lot.
  • Scarf & Sweater: It is equally important to cover your head and body after your delivery. I kept my head covered for almost a month!
  • Healthy snacks: now that the doctors allow to eat everything. Do not forget to take some healthy snacks with you. As you nurse your baby you will be hungrier.
  • Nursing pillow: I didn’t take this and regret. You need this pillow from day one. As you practise you will be more comfortable.
  • Diaper bag: I shall update very soon a guide to packing diaper bag too in a separate post.
  • The final outfit to go back at home: We have tones of pictures the day we brought our baby home right from the last day at hospital to reaching home! If memories can be made in good fashionable outfit…then why not! Lol!

Well ladies this was my “Guide To Packing Your Hospital Bag: Checklist for mom to be”and I have added few items above too, the ones which I forgot and thought could have been used. Do let me know if there are still some items that can be added.

Have a safe delivery! God bless!
