My Experience With ColorBar Lip Prime and Care: Lip Primer

The packaging is sleek and simple, I like it because, well, it’s black. It looks similar to Mac Prep + Prime Lip Primer. The product is clear and colorless. It has a bit of a waxy texture, slight silicone like feel (that you have in all primers). As soon as you apply it onto your lips, it slightly smoothes the fine lines (not too much) and lightens the lip color by one tone prepping the lips for the next step, i.e. adding color to them. This smoothens out the lips but exfoliation cannot be skipped else you can expect clumping and flaking after a few hours. The Colorbar Lip Primer does prolong the wear time of your lip color by a few hours. The texture is lightweight and does not feel like a heavy layer of product on the lips. To put this product to test, I wore it beneath the most drying liquid lipstick I own, the Color Pop ultra-mattes and I did feel a difference. The application was easy because the ultra-mattes dry very quickly so a moisturizing base helped in perfecting the lip color, the fine lines were not accentuated much and my lips did not feel as stretchy (usually they do after a few hours of application of these matte lip colors).

As a lip balm, I do not prefer this product. It slightly moisturizes but will not nourish your lips like a traditional lip balm.

“Info On A Silver Platter”

I like this product as a primer because there is a noticeable difference in the finish of lip colors with and without this primer. Its works well with matte lip colors (do exfoliate first though) and with creamy products too, I felt that it prolonged their wear time and prevented them from feathering and bleeding. But as mentioned already, I am not using it as a lip balm for sure because I don’t feel that it can do any good to dry chapped lips.

It also works as a barrier between the lips and lip color thus preventing them from getting pigmented due to strong formulas.
